Mary Klein is a professional artist with a special interest in the fine art of cloisonné enamel. She has been working in enamel for over 30 years showing her work widely across the country and in Canada and Japan. She has won numerous awards and honors and her pieces are prized in collections around the world. She has been commissioned to create works for heads of state, such as the Sheik of Kuwait; for museum officials, such as the Directors of the KremlinMuseum, the Fondazione Memmo, and the Romer-PelizeasMuseum; and for cities, such as Takamatsu, Japan, as gifts from the City of St. Petersburg.
Ms. Klein has served as President of both Ohio Designer Craftsmen and Florida Craftsmen, state service organizations for fine craftsmen, she sat on the Board of the Pinellas County Arts Council and was on the Executive Board of the Craft Emergency Relief Fund, a national organization charged with aiding craftspeople in emergencies. She has served as Artist-in-Residence for the PinellasCountySchool system for four years and in 1990, received the Friends of the Arts Award for her enamel work and the numerous arts-related activities in which she has voluntarily worked. One of her favorite projects was the Kidsart Exhibition, of which she was founding "mother." In 2003, Ms. Klein received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Florida Craftsmen.
Since 1989, Ms. Klein has aggressively pursued wholesale orders for her work based on children’s drawings and she has presented her more serious, one-of-a-kind wall pieces in single annual exhibitions. She delights in tours of her studio and regularly presents lectures and demonstrations on cloisonné, enamels in general, and the ever-changing life of an artist.
